Extracts from Pointe Blanche prison to be heard by French authorities

As part of the investigation of a case of extortion, robbery and sexual assault, the events of which occurred in August 2010 in Saint-Martin, the French authorities needed to hear two suspects imprisoned at Pointe Blanche prison in Sint Maarten. As they are serving long sentences there, it was difficult for the French authorities to await their release from prison. An international mutual assistance procedure has therefore been put in place. The attorney general of Basse-Terre asked the general prosecutor's office of Sint Maarten to extract the two suspects for their hearing in French in court in Marigot, a request which was accepted.

The transfer took place Friday April 28 morning by the gendarmes and the police of Sint Maarten.

It was the first time that prisoners were extracted from the prison center to be heard in Saint-Martin as part of an investigation. (More details on www.soualigapost.com)
