An unmissable event for photo enthusiasts will take place in Saint-Barthélemy, with the 2nd edition of the Saint-Barth Photo Festival. The Culture, Festivals-Ceremonies and Communication Commission of the Community has taken over the organization of this event which will take place from July 19 to August 25, 2019.
Two major exhibitions, with portraits of Saint-Barths but also of the world, will be presented to the public. These are two artists in love with the island, the photographer François Roelants and the director and writer Géraldine Danon who will present their photos during this festival which highlights Man.
It was in 2010, during his first visit to Saint-Barthélemy, that François Roelants discovered "an island whose history still had a strong anchorage among its inhabitants". Getting to know the population, visiting traditional huts and understanding, by listening to them, "what Saint-Barth really is", was the approach of this photographer who will present his works at the WallHouse museum on the theme "Saint-Barths" .
After cruising all the seas with the family, Géraldine Danon brought back a gallery of portraits made during her stopovers which she will exhibit at Rémy de Haenen airport. From the islands of Cape Verde to the far north, Bangladesh or Pakistan, the director engraved on the film colors and faces "which persist in our wake for a long time, as an invitation to adventure".
On Friday July 19, at 19:00 p.m., the opening of the Saint-Barth Photo Festival will take place at the WallHouse museum in the presence of the two artists. On Saturday July 27, Geraldine Danon will dedicate her book “The night is never as dark as before dawn” at 18 pm. And from 30:20 pm, Geraldine Danon's documentary, “Fleur Australe in the Footsteps of Ernest Shackleton”, will be an outdoor project, followed by a meeting with the director and the navigator Philippe Poupon. _RM
