Evolution of Covid-19 cases for 5 weeks in Saint-Martin / Sint Maarten

0

The first confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Saint-Martin were declared at the beginning of March, they were parents who had stayed in Saint-Barth and taken care of by the Louis-Constant Fleming hospital center; as they had not stayed in Saint-Martin, they are not counted in the health report.

The first positive cases among residents were confirmed on March 17, one in French and one in Dutch. Since then, 103 cases have been confirmed without counting the three tourists screened and hospitalized in the French part before being repatriated to their country. 68 of the cases are found in the Dutch part and 35 in the French part.

It was during the third week (March 30-April 5) that the number of cases exploded on the island with 44 positive patients identified (31 in Sint Maarten and 13 in Saint-Martin).

The French side has accumulated a maximum of 13 cases per week (in week 3), a 1 more than the previous week. Then, the number of confirmed weekly cases fell, remaining below the bar of 5. However, we observe a slight recovery of cases last week (4 cases against 2 the previous week), this is why the authorities insist on the importance of continuing to adopt barrier gestures. Since the beginning of this week, a new case has been registered.

In the Dutch part, the number of positive cases has been 15 per week since the beginning of April. Since Monday, 4 have been recorded.

To date, nearly half of residents across the island who have been infected since March 17, are still carriers of the virus (38 partly Dutch and 13 partly French). 40% of infected patients are cured (22 partly Dutch and 19 partly French). The death rate is 12,6% with 13 deaths recorded (11 partly Dutch and 2 partly French). Today, the French part has more cured patients than active cases. Partly Dutch, more than half of the patients are still carriers of the virus to this day. (soualigapost.com)
