The Compagnons Bâtisseurs organized their “Open Doors” day on Saturday June 11, at the foot of the Palmeraies residence building in Quartier d'Orléans, and there were many visitors.

The association invited, for a day, the population to come and meet them in order to discover the activities carried out by the Compagnons Bâtisseurs on the territory of Saint Martin in a spirit of conviviality and sharing. Present on the island since 2018, the solidarity association carries out numerous collective actions related to housing. Whether it's Accompanied Self-Rehabilitation (ARA) work sites, neighborhood workshops at Sandy Ground and Quartier d'Orléans, renovation and beautification of housing, loan of tools with or without training workshop or educational troubleshooting, the Compagnons Bâtisseurs are on all fronts of the transmission of their knowledge with a permanent desire to bring people together by creating social ties. The first “Open Doors” day allowed visitors to discover the meticulous work that the association has done since the passage of Hurricane Irma in the reconstruction of homes as well as the activities regularly offered by the facilitators. The participants were thus able to try their hand at different carpentry workshops while the children got caught up in the games planned for them, such as the sack race. The Compagnons Bâtisseurs also set up a “Habit'Art” photo exhibition for the occasion, carried out in collaboration with the photographer Laurent Baly, the photos exhibited honoring the inhabitants of the island. After this day full of discovery and emotions, visitors, employees, volunteers and partners gathered around a large buffet to discuss DIY, solidarity and living together. Another great initiative from an association that gives without counting. _VX
