The United States Embassy is currently coordinating with Royal Caribbean Cruises for a maritime evacuation of several American citizens who reside on the island of Saint Vincent affected by the eruption of the Soufriere volcano. Their arrival in Sint Maarten is scheduled for Saturday April 17.

Boarding the Celebrity Reflection is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. today, with the ship leaving the port of Kingstown in St. Vincent at 13 p.m. The cruise ship is expected in Philipsburg on the morning of this Saturday, April 17 at around 7 a.m.

Note that evacuees will not have travel expenses. On the other hand, American citizens will have to take care of their potential stay at the hotel and the reservation of their plane ticket from Juliana airport, which offers direct flights to several American cities. _AF
