Higher education: A full-service medicine UFR in the Antilles-Guyana

From the start of the 2023 academic year, a second-year medical student will be able to continue all of their first and second cycle of training in the Antilles-Guyana.

To carry out this project, the government will create 15 full university hospital posts and 15 assistant clinical chief posts over the next five years.

In addition, this project will contribute to improving medical demography in these territories by providing a complete training cycle and therefore a lever of attractiveness for the West Indies and Guyana, conceive the Ministers of Overseas, Health and Education superior.

As a reminder, article 80 of the law of July 2019, implementing the “My Health 2022” strategy, provided that the government submit to Parliament a report on the prospects for creating a full-service medical faculty in the Antilles and Guyana.

The Minister for Solidarity and Health and the Minister for Higher Education, Research and Innovation had – asked the General Inspectorates of Social Affairs and Education, Sport and Research to examine the project presented by the University of the West Indies (UA) and its health department to implement a second cycle of training in medical studies in the West Indies and Guyana.
