ENVIRONMENT: Moderate risk of sargassum stranding in the coming days

0

Satellite images taken at the end of last week indicate strong sargassum coverage over the Antilles area. “They extend from the south-eastern area of Barbados to the northern islands. The tablecloths appear very dispersed and are transported by systems of complex currents ”, specifies Météo France in its bulletin published the day before yesterday.

The detections carried out on Sunday in the northern islands give a significant risk to the east and north coasts of Saint-Barthélemy. The aquifers located east of Saint-Martin should approach the island with a moderate risk of grounding over the next 5 days, according to Météo France.

As a reminder, the COM signed in early July framework agreements with purchase orders with two companies, Gumbs Technique nouvelle and Janky Environnement, for the collection and removal of algae from six sites in the French part: Grande Caye, Cul de Sac , Mont Vernon, Baie de l'Embouchure, Etant aux Pisces and Baie Lucas. The first company is billed for 1 euros per day, and 440 euros per ton for the second. (soualigapost.com)
