Environment: First council of the sea on the site of the Educational Marine Area of Galisbay

SEGPA 6th grade students from Mont des Accords secondary school took part in the first outing to the site of the Galisbay marine educational area at the end of December. They thus continue the action started last year by their comrades who are in 5th now.

Early in the morning, the 17 SEGPA students of the Mont des Accords college were tasked with going to the site of the educational marine area of Galisbay along the coast in anticipation of the development of the future Marine Area. Educational located between the college's sailing school and the mangrove.

The idea of this project is to provide both an educational response particularly suited to the problems of children with special educational needs and to make it possible to educate our future adult students using the public maritime space.

This is how various actions were able to see the light of day last year (cleaning the beaches, building an object with salvage waste, going out to sea to discover cetaceans with Amandine from the association mon école ma baleine) .in this first year. This year, students will be keen to propose actions to promote respect for public space. They will participate in sea councils during which they will have to wonder about how to develop living together around the marine area. This area will be a space shared by all.

Concretely, this year it will be about putting the students in a situation to develop, design and produce objects to develop this coastal space. Collaborative and participative space shared between all users (walkers, bathers, fishermen) without forgetting of course the flora and fauna.

In connection with the various partners, including the local authority, the prefecture through the educational success program, it will be a question of fitting out this place in an educational and convivial spirit open to all.

But first, we have to think about preparing the place and our students for almost 4 hours will not spare their strength! The groups are formed by specialty, to study the space of the beach, the mangrove. They will observe the flora and fauna, identify the too much waste present in this beautiful space. At the end of January, they will begin to implement environmental actions by following the OSPAR protocol to collect plastic, glass and metal waste, etc. and ensure follow-up throughout the four years to follow.

But finally comes the reward, children can also enjoy the joys of the beach and playing in the sand, a shared moment conducive to creating a beautiful group cohesion.

The operation is a success because it has raised citizen awareness of the environment of our students, future adults who we bet will be responsible eco-citizens.

Jennifer tells us: “It will be hard, really very hard, we will have to clean up and teach the adults not to throw anywhere but we will get there. I am happy to be in the marine area project because I don't like dirtiness ”.

That's right, our students tell us: "Stop messy, let's make a move for us, don't throw it away anywhere ... put it in our pockets or in the trash".

But now we will soon with the association my school my whale start to prepare the information panels, the planting of trees and plants. It will be very clean and with the support of Ms. Karam our Principal and Ms. Alix-Laborde responsible for the environment and biodiversity, we will be proud of the actions of our students.

In the meantime, there is still a long way to go. They are aware of it now. But for now, it's time to head back to college and take a last look at the mangrove.
