By 2050, there will be more plastic in the oceans than fish if nothing is done to tackle current pollution.

Plastic pollution is a global problem that threatens the health of our oceans, lakes and rivers and young people are of crucial importance in creating a world free from plastic pollution.

"We live on an island, so it is important that we teachers get involved to educate young people about environmental issues. So that they can find solutions and take action. ”

It is through this educational project concerning several classes, including the second Commerce, that Ms. Célestine and Ms. Carre,  professor of applied arts and French at the Lycée Professionnel decided to educate students about eco-citizenship. Students whose mission is to convince the restorers of the island to no longer use plastic straws, which will be banned definitively in 2021.

After receiving specific instructions in graphic art, the students had to create an understandable logo (type) conveying the idea of not using plastic straws on our island.

Several classes worked on the project. At the end of the creations, three logos were chosen by the students to be printed and distributed in the restaurants of the island, who accept the challenge of no longer using plastic straws.

The second business students began their action on the Marigot marina on May 10 by offering a logo against the promise not to use plastic straw anymore. Alternatives have been proposed to restaurateurs such as bamboo straws or corn starch, the cardboard being less attractive (disintegrating too quickly in the glass). Most of the restaurateurs participated and the students were happy that their action was a great success.

Another action is possible in the village of Grand-Case.
