ENVIRONMENT: Installation of new sorting bins in neighborhoods

0

The Collectivity and its Environment department have started the execution of public contracts relating to the selective sorting of waste. The first step is to install new sorting bins in the neighborhoods. The sorting sector will be deployed in its entirety on the territory, from 2023.

On Monday, December 5, the Collectivity and its service provider installed new sorting bins in neighborhoods, schools and sports facilities. 130 sites made up of 3 bins – GREEN for glass – YELLOW for plastic and packaging – ORANGE for other waste – will be installed in the coming days. A total of 250 sites of this type are planned under this new public contract.

The first sorting baskets have been installed in downtown Marigot. It is planned to finalize the installation in the other sectors before the end of this year.

Green bin for glass

Yellow bin for plastics and packaging

Orange bin for other waste.

The collection of the contents of the sorting baskets will be ensured by a service provider dedicated to selective sorting, selected within the framework of a specific public contract. The service provider is responsible for receiving, sorting, packaging and transporting sorted waste to recycling recycling channels.

The Collectivity of Saint-Martin has an agreement with CITEO for the recycling of glass, plastic and packaging flows.

The deployment of sorting baskets is the first step of the system. New voluntary drop-off terminals (glass and plastic) will be deployed in the territory of Saint-Martin, starting in the first quarter of 2023.

This new material will fully contribute to the sorting gesture.

Through this action, the Collectivity of Saint-Martin and its Living Environment delegation, chaired by 2nd Vice-President Bernadette DAVIS, are part of a virtuous approach and responsible and sustainable waste management.

The population is invited to take full part in it by adopting the right sorting gestures on a daily basis.

We remind you that the collective garbage containers (gray and orange) are reserved for household waste, previously packed in garbage bags. Garbage collection takes place every evening from 23:00 p.m. You can drop off your garbage bags from 18:00 p.m.
