In accordance with the regulations, the draft prefectural decree relating to the 2022-2023 hunting season is subject to public consultation. He can read the document until June 29.

This year, it is proposed to open shooting hunting on the territory of Saint-Martin from Saturday July 30, 2022 inclusive at sunrise to Sunday January 1, 2023 inclusive and to prohibit hunting on Wednesday, unless that day is public holiday or non-working day (Wednesday, November 2, 2022).

Species permitted to be hunted are Square-tailed Dove, Eurasian Collared-Dove, Charadriiform and Anseriform species, Grivotte and Soursop Mockingbirds, Crescent Doves and Red-necked Pigeons. The prefectural decree proposes to authorize their hunting on Tuesdays, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays and non-working days.

Depending on the species, a number of catches is limited. For example, for the square-tailed dove, a hunter cannot kill more than 15 per day. The regulations also require hunters to have a collection book; the document is provided by the departmental federation of hunters of Guadeloupe and must indicate the number of catches.

At the end of the season, hunters must send their notebook to the federation so that it can draw up a provisional report on the management plans for the species and present it to the prefect and the departmental service of the French Office for Biodiversity.

As a reminder throughout the Collectivity of Saint-Martin, hunting of the following species is prohibited: yellow-footed thrush, white-crowned pigeon, lone sandpiper, corlieu curlew, Hudsonian godwit, collared turnstone, ruviolet dove, red dowitcher .
