ENVIRONMENT: Since Irma the ecosite has received 1784 end-of-life vehicles

From Irma, the Grandes Cayes ecosite managed by VERDE-SXM has received 1784 ELVs (End-of-Life Vehicles), half of which are provided by insurance, around 300 by individuals, garages or the gendarmerie, and 600 by the Community as part of its cleaning campaign.

Until then, the ecosite ELV center, opened in early 2016, had treated just under 800 wrecks in total. "Since Irma we have already reached 900 ELV treated" advance Patrick Villemin, president of VERDE-SXM. In nine months, the company has therefore cleaned up, dismembered and crushed more vehicles than in two and a half years.

But to cope with the huge volume of ELVs brought to it from Irma, VERDE-SXM had to reorganize. ELVs are also cleaned up and recoverable parts are removed. But the small pieces usually sorted are not sorted out to save time. This allows about fifteen vehicles to be treated per day. All spare parts are sold to a specialized seller, Booxt Caribbean, so that individuals who wish to buy them do not have to go inside the site, for security reasons.
