Senatorial election: candidacies must be submitted this week

0

On September 27 the grand electors of Saint-Martin will have to designate the new senator, the one who will succeed Guillaume Arnell. During the presentation of his vows at the beginning of the year, the latter had indicated that he was considering re-presenting himself. Annick Petrus and Steven Patrick would also be candidates.

Men and women who wish to run will have to apply at the prefecture next week.

The election will then take place on Sunday, September 27. It is an election by indirect universal suffrage, that is to say that only the large voters vote. In Saint-Martin, there are 25: all members of the territorial council as well as the deputy and the senator according to the list drawn up by the prefecture in accordance with the law. It will be a two-round majority vote.

Note that the next senator will not be able to combine either a vice-president position or a member of the executive council. The person must therefore resign from his previously acquired mandates within 30 days. (soualigapost.com)
