After that of Senator Annick Pétrus, Les Républicains presidential candidate Valérie Pécresse received sponsorship from Daniel Gibbs and Alain Gros-Desormeaux in Saint-Martin; the latter had, five years ago, supported Emmanuel Macron.
Being sponsored by at least 500 local, regional or territorial elected officials is one of the conditions for his candidacy for the presidential election to be accepted. All the territorial councilors of Saint-Martin as well as the deputy and the senator of Saint-Martin can support the candidate of their choice. Sponsorships are verified by the Constitutional Council. Last Thursday, 8 were validated.
The first round of the presidential election will take place in the West Indies on Saturday April 9, Sunday April 10 in mainland France.
