PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION: Still low turnout in Saint-Martin

the 1er round of the presidential election will take place this Saturday, April 9 in the West Indies due to the time difference, but the local results will not be known until Sunday from 14 p.m. (20 p.m. Paris time). Traditionally, this deadline mobilizes very little voters in Saint-Martin.

The lowest turnout in the past two decades was seen in the first round in 2002: 24,7% of those registered voted. In 2017, it was 2 points higher. Conversely, the highest rate was recorded in the second round in 2007; 48,1% of those registered had moved.

Mobilization is always weaker in the first round than in the second. In 2002, turnout was 32,7% in the second round against 24,7% in the first; in 2007 it had been 48,1% against 45%; in 2012, it had been 38% against 30,9% and in 2017 30,9% against 26,3%. _Soualiga.post.com
