Education: A school teacher competition in the pocket

0

Stylo d'August is the space where you can revise your lessons while having fun. Created by the youth and sport service of the Collectivity, the operation allows all primary school students to benefit from tutoring on all subjects during the summer holidays. With a dual objective, this annual meeting is led by students from the island thanks to the employment-holiday scheme. This is the case of Carlissa Jean-Baptiste, who obtained her school teacher competition a month before the start of the August pen operation.

In July, Carlissa Jean-Baptiste celebrated the effort of seven years of study by obtaining her school teacher competition. “I don't hide my joy from you when I learn of it,” says Carlissa. Known to August pens since 2018, the young holder is once again participating in the operation. Her interest in the path of education, and her training led her to be taught at the Marie-Amélie Leydet school, where she supervises the other temporary workers and contributes to the school support of the children. "I have the chance to experience the work for which I was trained and to which I aspire, because we do not all have a baggage of years of experience", she confides. And keeping the attention of this small audience, between 6 and 11 years old, is a long-term mission. "Children need to manipulate objects, look at pictures, or even play games to better understand the exercise." So, to the lessons we add leisure techniques. Sculpt, or even do math using cubes. The children do not remain seated all along on a chair and in front of a notebook, but engage in different activities, both educational, leisure and sporting. "It motivates them every day," says the young holder.

At the start of the school year, Carlissa Jean-Baptiste will fly to Martinique, where she obtained her competition, to teach. This first year of tenure must be done there. "I hope to return to teach in Saint-Martin at the start of the 2023-24 school year." _pc
