EDUCATION: Officials wish a good return to school for young and old

0

This Thursday, September 1, the official day of return for many classes, several officials met at the Quartier d'Orléans college to visit the construction site of the Collège 600 La Roche engraved project in Moho, to take stock with the press and above all, wish everyone a happy new year.

The president of the Collectivité Louis Mussington, the 2nd vice-president Bernadette Davis, also president of the Living Environment Delegation, Dominique Louisy, 3rd vice-president in charge of education issues, Vincent Berton the delegate prefect of Saint-Barthélemy and Saint -Martin and Harry Christophe, the new vice-rector of the Northern Islands gathered at the college of Quartier d'Orléans where they had invited the press to wish all the students and teaching staff a good return to school. Mr. Vincent Berton wanted to honor this return to school, it is his first time in Saint-Martin since taking office as delegate prefect 6 months ago.

"I wanted to be present with students and teachers," he said. Louis Mussington, for his part, praised the teaching team, including the principal of the college, Leela Hanson.

Aware of the inconvenience that a construction site of such magnitude as that of Collège 600 can cause, the president recalled that these measures were taken in the interest of the students and the teaching staff.

The officials therefore did not choose the Quartier d'Orléans college by chance to wish the population a good return to school. The Collège 600 construction site will ensure better learning and education conditions for the future of students and future generations. Harry Christophe, the new representative of the rectorate, expressed his joy to be present by thanking the warm reception which was reserved for him and his impatience to work collectively with those present in order to examine the priorities and to render the educational service. Saint-Martin more efficient.

College 600

The meeting continued with an exchange of questions and answers between the officials and the press concerning the construction site of the 600 college and the public schools of the French part of the island. With 437 students today and one bilingual class per level, the future college will be able to accommodate 600 students in an innovative structure created with a vision that places the natural environment at the heart of its prerogatives. The new floor area will reach 6300m2, built on an ecological model, equipped with passageways to shelter the students, photovoltaic panels for the production of energy, rainwater collectors for the toilets, as well as a landscaped garden and a educational garden. The new building will include a ground floor in a concrete structure and an upper floor in a metal construction with seismic and cyclonic standards, as well as an 1800m2 gymnasium. Collège 600, which will open its doors at the start of the 2025 school year, is therefore taking shape in a logic of sustainable development with ecological materials. Just like the 900 college project at La Savane which will be delivered in June 2024, which will relieve congestion at the Robert Weinum high school. With regard to the 600 college site, phase 1 of demolition, which began last July, should end in February 2023. The workers are working according to the educational program so as not to disrupt the daily lives of college students too much. The start of the first phase of construction will take place in June 2023 for a total budget of 22 million euros. According to officials, schools on the French side are operational but not final. After the devastating passage of Irma, the Education Committee quickly reopened certain schools, welcomes the Prefect, but 5 years later, upgrading standards and other reconstructions still have to take place. Other structuring facilities are on the list of officials in terms of reconstruction such as the Alberic Richards stadium at Sandy Ground, the Concordia media library, the cultural center at Sandy Ground and that of Grand-Case, and finally, the bay of Marigot which also needs an innovative project to be revitalized. For Louis Mussington, it is necessary to multiply the efforts in terms of construction and to think about long-term projects.

The presence of the officials at the Quartier d'Orléans college ended with a visit to a third grade class where the delegation encouraged the students in their school career and wished them a good start to the new school year.

Back to school 2022

Hundreds of children returned to school benches on September 1 in the four corners of the French part of Saint-Martin. Some joined the CP class, like Raphaël or Luka in Grand-Case. There were many smiles on the faces of the little ones and the impatience to experience this new adventure was palpable. On this September 5 when all the sections have now returned to class, on behalf of the entire Faxinfo editorial staff, happy new school year to all! _VX
