Education: Wastewater treatment explained to students

0

On the occasion of European Sustainable Development Week, the CM2 class of the Marie-Amélie Leydet school participated on Thursday June 6 in an educational visit to the new treatment plant in Quartier d'Orléans. "We will no longer see water in the same way" confides Lylou at the end of the presentation.

"It was the second visit of the week" advance David Dupont, engineer in charge of mission at the EEASM who explains that the first took place on Monday, and others Thursday afternoon and Friday. These educational visits were organized in conjunction with the EDD (environment & sustainable development) project manager of the primary teaching staff, Stéphanie Brouwers, and in agreement with the education services.

David Dupont and Christophe Narcy, head of the sanitation department of SAUR Saint-Martin, showed the students the different stages through which the wastewater passes and explained the operation of the station.

"When it arrives from us the water is dirty and here it is filtered and comes out much cleaner than when it arrived" summarizes Maëlyss. For Taïna, the advantage of this wastewater treatment is “not to kill the fish and the birds that eat the fish”.

Put into operation in February 2019, the station was designed to treat the wastewater of up to 18 homes located in Orient Bay, Quartier d'Orléans, Cul de Sac, Mont Vernon and part of Grand Case.
