EDUCATION: The abolition of slavery celebrated at the Hervé Williams school

0

On the eve of the commemoration of the abolition of slavery organized by the Collectivity of Saint-Martin on May 28, the CM2 students from the Hervé Williams school gave a magnificent show recounting this dark part of History until 'to the liberation of the oppressed.

A first painting was first presented to the other students at the Concordia school. CM2 students, through storytelling, games, singing and dancing, explained to their classmates the precarious living conditions and forced labor of slaves at the time to harvest cotton, sugar cane and salt. …until their deliverance. They then danced their joy at being free again, increased tenfold by the applause of the assembly. During the second painting, the CM2 students brought to life their replica of an animal mill in an 18th century sugar factory while telling the story of sugar manufacturing and triangular trade. This modeling project was initiated by their professor Xavier Mirre Minori last February and came to fruition thanks to the support of the COM as part of the Caravan of History and funding from the Foundation for the Memory of Slavery. Congratulations to all ! _VX
