Education / And it continues…

Yesterday morning, the movement continued at the LPO of the North Islands. Appointment was given at 6 am for a sitting outside the doors of the establishment which is one of the most affected by Irma.

Once again, many responded. Obviously, there were now familiar faces, but there were new ones. Not everyone can be there every day, so we shoot. The collective led by the parents' association UPESM, decided to block a new establishment every day. And each time we meet new parents, teachers and students, we explain the group's motivations. Yesterday morning, in front of the LPO, some members of the collective were particularly upset after the remarks that one of the elected officials of the Collectivity would have made on the microphone of a local radio. At the bend of a group of high school students, Dominique Louisy, teacher at the LPO and union delegate, “We cannot go to the radio to say that the people who form the collective are not Saint Martin. When we allow ourselves to be called to hate, it does not pass, we think of filing a complaint ”. The comments annoy all the more since it would not be the first time, another elected official would have made similar comments after the black march in Grand-Case. And a member of the collective to bid, "As if you had to be a" native "Saint Martin to care for the well-being of your child.

As if you had to have children yourself to care for the well-being of children. ”

And then, we must admit that the attitude of the students begins to change. The collective clears the doors at 8am as planned, the parents of students no longer block the doors.

“Madam, everything is defective for us. At the administration, they have new air conditioning and clean furniture and they ask us to work in shit, sorry if it's rude. Even the sports ground is flooded with water, the permanence room is the stairs… ” G. Grade XNUMX student

However, the pupils do not try to enter, they remain massed outside. Conversations here and there leave no doubt as to their state of mind. When asked what they want, the answers burst out, impossible to write them all down, or even to hear them all because there are so many complaints. They are teenagers, everything goes by, some of the requests seem preposterous and yet they are real. We do not imagine that it may be necessary to ask for toilet doors or toilet paper ... For some, it is the first time in their lives that they have considered the strike, "It is not done here but we I'm sick of it, ma'am! " The students tell us about the cleaning of the rooms, the heat during the lessons, the permanence room without roof, the makeshift permanence room on the stairs of the establishment, the two benches in the course for the all of the students, the cooking workshops and the restaurant, of course, the lack of shelter in the event of rain, the lack of computer equipment, the air conditioning that smokes…

We must admit that it is really difficult not to get carried away with them as the difficulties they encounter seem numerous. And yet, to the question what do you want now? Such a simple answer, "we want to go to school normally, madam" that one wonders why they have to ask. School normally… That's all we want them to do, so that the responsible adults who form the community can sit around a table and put the priorities back where they belong. _NB
