EDUCATION: Second edition of the “Parents Café” at Mont des Accords college

0

At the Monts des Accords college, the 6nd edition of the “Parents’ Café” event took place on Friday January 2, organized and led by Danielle HILAIRE, social worker. The chosen theme was: “Communicate with your teenager without alienating them”.

As for the 1st edition, whose theme was "The rhythm of the adolescent: Sleep well, eat well to feel good at school", internal stakeholders (school nurses, operational project manager of the Cité Educative, adviser orientation) and external (dietician, educator and psychologist from the Espace Santé Jeunes) were present to animate the debates. About twenty parents answered the call, a small number but well adapted for a good flow of speech.

The choice of themes is each time well oriented in order to reach an increasingly large audience. Parents greatly appreciate these moments which are entirely devoted to them. Indeed, the "Parents' Café" is a friendly and caring place that allows parents to discuss rich and varied themes around parenthood. Everyone can express themselves and speak about their difficulties, their ideas, without fear of judgement.

A snack was offered and it was around the galette des rois that the 2nd edition took place. A way to promote communication and make the debates more attractive.

This action, strongly acclaimed by the school community, is part of one of the objectives of the school project to fight against absenteeism by implementing actions that can provoke the school commitment of students and parents and to give meaning to school.

This operation has the financial support of the European Social Fund within the framework of the action  “Bring dropouts back to college”.

David Desiage, the Principal and Jacques Houpert, the Deputy Principal, emphasize the involvement of parents as a fundamental factor in the success and academic perseverance of students.
