0

This Monday, November 7 from 8:30 a.m., the conference room of the Grand Case Beach Club hosted the first Assises of the blue economy of Saint-Martin, organized by the Collectivity, which aims to establish a strategy for sustainable growth in the sectors marine and maritime with the help of various local actors.

The opening of the Assises was given by the first vice-president of the COM in charge of economic development, Alain Richardson, and Vincent Berton, delegate prefect of the Northern Islands who fully supports the project advocating, among other things, a structuring of the sectors and regularization of the fishing sector. Both are unanimous on the importance of developing a common and shared strategy, integrating in a transversal way all the challenges of the blue economy. Forty people took part in this day, the afternoon of which was devoted to discussion and exchange workshops, workshops divided into 8 groups under the following themes: fishing and marine farming, tourism and ecotourism, shipyards, yachting and boating, port and passenger transport, environment and ecology, training and finally, governance and monitoring of the strategic plan. Based on the diagnosis and inventory of the issues and needs for the Saint-Martin blue economy established by the firm BRL Ingénierie, specializing in areas related to Water, the Environment and Planning of the territory, the actors of the blue economy have established avenues of work according to their group theme, avenues which will be submitted to the territorial elected officials who will have the task of deciding on the main axes of the strategy of the blue economy of Saint- Martin. Tracks such as the creation of a landing quay for fishermen and a Saint-Martin label, the rehabilitation of the marinas of Oyster Pond and Fort Louis, the establishment of a maritime shuttle, an extension to the port of Galisbay, the concentration of nautical activities in one place (Galion), an awareness campaign on sea trades for Saint-Martin children, etc. The ideas were many. A report covering all of them will be drafted by BRL Ingénierie, which will conduct other interviews with the parties concerned during the month. "The objective of this advisory service is to support the Community and mobilize the untapped potential of this part of the economy, in favor of employment and the growth of the territory" according to Alain Richardson. _VX
