Strong increase in container traffic at the port of Sint Maarten

0

In the post-Irma context, the port of Philipsburg saw its traffic increase significantly between January and June 2018. 12 additional containers were processed, bringing the total number of containers processed by the platform to 052. This represents an increase of 43% compared to 736 at the same time.

These 2018 results are mainly explained by the increase in 40-foot containers processed: + 65%, or 32 compared to 461 in 19. The increase mainly occurred in the second quarter with almost the doubling of 698 feet (2017); in the first quarter, a third more than in 40 had already been treated (19).

The number of movements increased by 12% in the first half of the year: 57 against 535 due to a greater increase in the movements of outgoing containers (+ 51%) than of incoming (373%).
