Drinking water: "Two very complicated weeks at the end of March and the end of April" are announced by Saur and COM

In 2019, the Saint-Martin water and sanitation establishment (EEASM) began the rehabilitation of the water production plant in the French part located in Galisbay. This work aims to upgrade the facilities set up in 2006 and optimize water production.

The dilapidated state of the equipment makes this site urgent. The blackout at the end of December 2020 between the end of year celebrations proved the need for this work: “the plant is the only structure that produces drinking water in Saint-Martin, in the event of a problem, it is all production and distribution which is affected, ”explains Saur, which has been operating and managing the site since 2018.

The rehabilitation of the plant has already started "and so far work has been undertaken which has caused little inconvenience to consumers", comments the president of the Collectivity during a visit to the equipment on Wednesday. And so to take tweezers to announce that users will have to live two weeks of "very complicated" work. In other words, for a week at the end of March and another at the end of April, the distribution of water will be interrupted by 24 hour increments and by sector. “We will communicate the cut-off schedule upstream,” says Saur, which, with the services of the EEASM, consulted socio-economic players in order to develop these schedules and thus inconvenience consumers as little as possible.

"The hospital center will always be supplied", assured the president of the COM.

"This period will be difficult but this work is necessary to restore the plant and optimize water production", wants Daniel Gibbs to understand.

During this period, subscribers will be asked to pay attention to their consumption. "When the water is temporarily delivered, if customers consume too much water, it will have repercussions on the rest of the distribution and the stock", explains Saur.
