Tightening of travel restrictions between Saint-Martin and Sint-Maarten

Failure to present documents justifying travel may result in police custody in the event of a repeat offense!

Since March 23, 2020, containment measures have been taken to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus and save lives. Unfortunately, still too many people do not follow the instructions and allow the disease to spread.

This is why the Prefecture of Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin and the government of Sint-Maarten are tightening travel restrictions on the island of Saint-Martin.

Traffic between Saint-Martin and Sint-Maarten is limited until April 15, 2020

In connection with the government of Sint-Maarten, the Prefecture issued a decree on March 29, 2020 limiting travel between the two parts of the island.

Getting to the Dutch side is strictly limited to the following compelling reasons:

- Go to your place of work if teleworking is not possible;

- Travel for an urgent medical reason.

Cross-border workers must be in possession of their professional travel proof stamped and signed by their employer as well as their derogatory travel certificate. These documents can be downloaded from the Facebook page and from the Prefecture website.

The transport of goods remains authorized to circulate between the French part and the Dutch part.

Reinforced controls are put in place by the gendarmerie and the KPSM at the borders. Failure to present documents justifying a trip will be punished with a fine. Recidivism may result in police custody.
