Projects that never saw the light of day

Saint-Martin has never missed projects. Whether private or public. But only very few have been successful. That is why today it is difficult to believe in new people. Here are some of the projects announced that have never materialized for various reasons.

• Hotel projects

- In 2014, Club Med had raised some hope. The group had launched an appeal for virgin land, on the beach, etc., in Saint-Martin to establish itself there; the appeal had been broadcast in the media and the landowners had been invited to contact The Club, two of whom had come to the field.

The group notably had views on the Happy Bay site, after having had them for several years on that of La Belle Créole. If the first time we made it clear to the group that he was not welcome, in 2014, we thought he was a cash cow. In the end, Club Med focused on other projects in the Caribbean.

- The revival of La Belle Créole is also a classic: since its closure, we have been talking about its reopening. Several years ago, the project was supposed to be successful. The Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations was interested and ready to support the project. But, the American banks would not have followed. Today, they are back in the circuit and carry out feasibility studies before giving the green light. It would only be a matter of weeks, if not a question of millions.

To be continued in our next edition.
