Departing from Toulon, the BPC Tonnerre arrived in Saint-Martin on Saturday, September 23, with more than 290 reinforcements on board, four maneuver helicopters and around a hundred engineering army vehicles. After having unloaded some of the equipment on the beaches of the French part, the BPC had gone to quay in Philipsburg to unload other rolling stock and containers.

He returned to Marigot Bay on Thursday October 12 to carry out the reverse operations. It is the end of his mission in Saint-Martin. He left on Friday October 13 in metropolitan France. A next mission of four months awaits him in the Indian Ocean.

Since the passage of Irma, more than five hundred soldiers from the three armies (land, air, navy) have been sent to Saint-Martin to carry out emergency work there to facilitate the resumption of social life and economical. “The rest of the projects must be carried out by private companies. We are not there to compete with them, ”insists the army.

Twenty-three projects were carried out: creation of an access track to the ecosite, clearing and securing of the tower at Grand Case airport, marking and lifting of wrecks in the bay of Cul de Sac, clearing of the housing estate and Cul de Sac school, securing the barrier pond, evacuation of the Pic Paradis telephone antenna, installation of electricity pylons in Grand Case, cleaning up gullies, securing the prefecture, clearing of the maritime affairs office, stripping and earthworks of the administrative city, rehabilitation of two service stations, marking and securing of the Simpson Bay lagoon on the French side, securing and clearing of the Chez Elmer school, clearing and restoring access to hospital.
