Daniel Gibbs announces that he wants to ask the State for environmental competence

In his speech of July 14, the President of the COM expressed for the first time since the start of his mandate, his desire to be able to obtain environmental competence. "Know that we will assess the opportunity for the community of Saint-Martin to start the preliminary steps in order to recover environmental competence," he said.

Above all, understand that the elected officials do not want (or no longer) that the State dictate to them how to manage their territory.

Indeed, it is because environmental competence is the responsibility of the State that the latter is currently revising the PPRN natural risk prevention plan which it already established in 2011; a revision which should lead to new prescriptions and a new zoning with new constraints in terms of construction in the coastal areas. This is not to please the local populations concerned who have resided in these sectors for decades.

“Redesigning Saint-Martin is a cross-cutting, partnership-based work that must be carried out by Saint-Martinois for Saint-Martin. Because who better than a Saint Martin can know what is good for him! (…) The Saint-Martinois knows what is best for him ”, agrees Daniel Gibbs.
