Cyclotron: an advance against cancer

0

In 2015, former President of the Republic François Hollande announced that Guadeloupe, like Martinique, would be equipped with a cyclotron, equipment used in the detection of cancer pathologies. After many obstacles, the archipelago can finally rejoice: last week, the site of the molecular imaging center (CIMGUA) in Abymes welcomed the device. The installation of the PET camera (the TEPScan) which will serve as a scanner is the next step, according to the Guadeloupe 1st channel. The population was strongly mobilized in favor of a cyclotron by launching a petition in 2014. Cancers are the leading cause of death in men and the second in women in the archipelago (2014 figures), according to the Observatory Regional Health Authority of Guadeloupe (L'ORSaG). _EH
