Culture: “Street Life” captured by Chams at Ti Expo

"I take photos to clear my head," says Mathieu Alexandre, alias Chams.

Self-taught, the 26-year-old young man grew up in the Caribbean and has been living in Saint-Martin since 2006. He started photography seven years ago, helped by his friend Donovan. Since then, this manager of a tile store in Colebay has practiced his passion in his spare time. He is particularly fond of portraits and street photos that he publishes on his site.

“I mainly try to capture the looks,” he explains. In the Photo Caraibes store in Marigot, the Ti Expo is hosting some of his photos, brought together under the title “Street Life”, from last week until May 31. This is the second time that his works have been exhibited. Some are indeed already in the street since Chams was one of the photographers to have been selected by the jury for the second edition of Faces of Saint-Martin.
