On the occasion of the official release of the trilingual collection of poetry by Lasana Sekou in collaboration with the association Les Fruits de Mer, the public came in droves for the signing session in the presence of the author organized on Saturday February 4th at the Amuseum Naturalis.

The crowd was proportional to the symbolism of the event. “6 Poems / 6 Poèmes / 6 Poemas” is a trilingual book that shares the poetic works of Saint-Martin writer Lasana Sekou, in original English, French and Spanish. With a cover in colors reminiscent of the Unity Flag dear to the heart of the artist for having participated in its creation, this one-of-a-kind work was born from the idea of Mark Yokoyama of the association Les Fruits de Mer. This Saturday February 4 from 9 a.m., young and old rushed to discover the book, distributed free of charge at the Amuseum Naturalis and autographed by Lasana Sekou who took the time to talk with each person about poetry, culture or even the Saint - Martin of yesteryear. During the signing session, the little ones took advantage of the coloring area to express their imagination with other works published by the association.

To enhance this cultural morning, Jenn Yerkes, another little genius of the Seafood duo, had prepared dishes and refreshments available to the public. A nod to local culinary traditions, small pies made by St Martin's Sweetness Pastries, with a good taste of guavaberry and coconut, delighted the taste buds of visitors. While some waited to have their poetry collection autographed, others took the opportunity to visit the new exhibition installed in the park of the historic Old House in Quartier d'Orléans. Large colorful literary panels display the poems in the three languages. In addition to the original texts in English by Lasana Sekou, the public discovers new translations by Alex Richards, Fabian Adekunle Badejo and Jocelyne Illidge. Several middle school students from Robert Weinum, accompanied by their Spanish teacher, took part in the inauguration of the exhibition before meeting the author and the translators, who were also present on February 4th. For Lasana Sekou, “it is an honor to be one of the writers whose work is made visible to young people, parents, teachers, visitors, everyone who visits the museum. With "6 Poems", some of these writings can be taken home and into the classrooms and media libraries of the schools on our island". As usual, the association Les Fruits de Mer will distribute the collection of poetry free of charge to schools in Saint-Martin as part of the project funded by the Collectivity of Saint-Martin via the Associative Life. Permission to publish the poems in this 36-page volume has been granted by the House of Nehesi Publishers and Lasana Sekou. A real invitation to immerse yourself in Saint-Martin and the richness of its culture, "6 Poems" reveal the importance of poetry where the use of sound and the rhythm of words succeed in expressing emotions that no other genre of writing fails to match. _VX
