Covid-19: The incidence rate in the Northern Islands remains above the vigilance threshold but the situation is still stable

The latest health bulletin published by the ARS for the week of December 28 to January 3, 2021 reports 23 new people tested positive for Covid-19 in Saint-Martin, including 10 residents.

Taking into account the consolidated data from the previous weeks, this brings to 1025 the number of cumulative cases of coronavirus confirmed in the territory.

592 additional tests were carried out (PCR and antigens carried out by health professionals in the territory), for a total of 12 tests recorded.

It should be noted that the antigenic drive carried by the Red Cross to Hope Estate, meanwhile, carried out 746 antigenic tests in week 53 (for 3 positive), which are also recorded.

The weekly incidence rate remains above the alert threshold, and stands at a rate of 64/100 000 inhabitants in week 53 against 89/100 000 inhabitants in week 52).

The weekly positivity rate stabilizes, it is now 3,9% against 5,8% in week 52).

All these indicators confirm a still active circulation on the territory. We must therefore maintain a high level of vigilance, knowing that this week the most affected age group remains that of 45-64 years with an incidence rate still of 106/100 000 inhabitants.

Although the number of new cases seems to be stabilizing, the situation calls for vigilance since the tourist season is fully launched.

The opening of the territory to foreign tourists, especially North Americans, the increase in the number of air rotations and the end of year celebrations are all risk factors, which could soon lead to a massive increase in the number of cases.

We must strengthen the early detection of positive cases, contact-tracing, respect for barrier gestures and isolation when necessary to avoid the installation of transmission chains and the development of sources of contamination.

The virus is transmitted very often in the private sphere (family events as well as friends) or the professional sphere (at your place of work). The entire population is therefore called upon to take maximum precaution and increasingly respect barrier gestures.

From December 28 to January 3, 2021, it should be noted that no new cluster has been identified in the territory.

The Louis-Constant Fleming hospital remains very mobilized for the management of the crisis. As of January 4, 3 confirmed Covid patients are hospitalized in the establishment's medical department.

The drive activity continues at the hospital, making it possible to offer a PCR screening offer which must remain the reference test.

The antigenic drive, accessible at Hope Estate, is reserved for travelers leaving for Guadeloupe or Martinique and for tourists staying on the French side (contracted accommodation providers). This drive is open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 16 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. _AF
