Covid-19: 32 new positive cases recorded from December 21 to 27, 2020

While waiting for the first figures for 2021, the latest health bulletin published by the ARS for the week of December 21 to 27 reports 32 new positive cases recorded in Saint-Martin against 38 the previous week, i.e. a stable number of contaminations. Taking into account the consolidated data from the previous weeks, this brings to 995 the number of cumulative cases of coronavirus confirmed in the territory.

The weekly incidence rate is always higher than the alert threshold, nevertheless it decreases compared to the previous week with a rate of 89/100 000 inhabitants in week 52 (against 106/100 000 inhabitants in week 51).

The weekly positivity rate is slightly increasing and becomes higher than the vigilance threshold, it goes to 5,8% (against 4,7% in week 51).

All these indicators confirm a still active circulation on the territory. We must therefore maintain a high level of vigilance, knowing that the age group most affected in the last week of December remains that of 45-64 years with an incidence rate still of 149/100 000 inhabitants.

Although the number of new cases seems to be stabilizing, the situation calls for vigilance since the tourist season is fully launched. The opening up of the territory to foreign tourists, especially North Americans, the increase in the number of air rotations and the end of year celebrations are all risk factors, which could soon lead to a massive increase in the number of cases.

For the period from December 21 to 27, 2020, it should be noted that no new cluster has been identified in the territory.

The Louis-Constant Fleming hospital remains very mobilized for the management of the crisis. As of December 28, 5 confirmed Covid patients were hospitalized in the establishment's medical department. A medical evacuation of COVID patients was carried out to Guadeloupe in week 52.

The drive activity continues at the hospital, making it possible to offer a PCR screening offer which must remain the reference test.

The antigenic drive, accessible at Hope Estate, is reserved for travelers leaving for Guadeloupe or Martinique and for tourists staying on the French side (contracted accommodation providers). This drive is open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 16 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. _AF
