This Friday April 17, at dawn, the "Dixmude" helicopter carrier arrived in the bay of Marigot from Toulon as part of the "Resilience" operation. From their building, two helicopters made six rotations in the morning to deposit the equipment (masks, tents, etc.) on the grounds of the Jean-Louis Vanterpool stadium in Marigot.

Once deposited on the ground, the equipment was recovered by the seventy soldiers from 33e marine regiment (RIMa) arrived last Sunday from Fort-de-France. The material was then sent to the Louis-Constant Fleming hospital center.

"The sailors who got out of the helicopter carrier had been isolated and there was no physical contact with the soldiers of the RIMa", explains Commander Fenouillet, head of this detachment. And to add: "in Martinique, the soldiers of RIMa had also been placed in confinement for fourteen days without any contact with the other members of the camp."

The equipment transported by Dixmude allows the installation of an advanced medical post. Composed of ten tents, it can accommodate up to fifty patients in case of need. The air-conditioned tents are positioned behind the hospital unit dedicated to patients with covid-19. They will help relieve congestion in the hospital if it becomes overwhelmed.

Operation “Resilience” also provides for the provision of two military helicopters in Saint-Martin.

For maintenance reasons, they are based in Guadeloupe but will come to provide medical evacuations. They should facilitate Evasan in terms of logistics and time (7 hours are necessary to carry out medical evacuation note).

The helicopter will land on the Jean-Louis Vanterpool stadium, the reception office of which has been set up by the technical services of the Community in order to welcome a patient waiting to be evacuated.

Once the advanced medical post is installed and operational, the RIMa soldiers will remain at the disposal of the State services to "assist the population and provide logistical support". “For example, we can distribute water or meals if necessary. On the other hand, our role will not be to enforce confinement and to control the vehicles, ”confides Commander Fenouillet.

The duration of the operation is not specified. "We will stay as long as it takes," said the head of the detachment.

In Saint-Martin, the seventy soldiers are housed in a hangar at Grand Case airport. “We are completely independent. We brought everything with us (food, etc.), ”said the commander.
