COP 21: signing of a historic agreement

0

In order to fight global warming, representatives of 195 countries adopted an unprecedented global agreement in Paris as part of COP21 last Saturday. Particularly vulnerable to climate change, the overseas communities, including Saint-Martin, were strongly mobilized for the climate during this summit.

Dying coral reefs, hurricanes of incredible power, long periods of drought and a coastline plagued by rising sea levels: the consequences of global warming are more and more numerous. At the end of two weeks of negotiations, the agreement of the 21st UN climate conference is certainly not perfect, but the text shows that the representatives of 195 countries - which have undertaken in particular to limit the rise in temperature average "well below 2 ° C" and to "continue efforts to limit the rise in temperature to 1,5 ° C" - understood that we had to contain the warming of our planet. The comprehensive agreement is due to enter into force in 2020.

"My climate, my problem"

The Saint-Martin Nature Reserve thanks the students of the Mont des Accords college for their welcome, but also for their work, as part of the event "My climate, my problem", which took place last Thursday within the school. On this occasion, the agents of the institution presented their actions in favor of the preservation of local biodiversity. A tree for the climate was planted in the college grounds, as part of the national action organized by the association LPO.
