Saint-Martin Tourism Council: Building a solid statistical base

0

President Daniel Gibbs chaired the Tourism Council of Saint-Martin, in the presence of socio-economic actors of the territory, on Thursday, June 17.

On the agenda of this Council, the Collectivity presented the architecture and the content of the Saint-Martin tourism code project, which will soon be presented to the territorial council for approval. This document codifies all of the deliberations taken between 2008 and 2020, in the context of adapting national provisions to specific territorial features.

To strengthen the particularly deprived sector of statistics, President Gibbs announced the creation of a statistics department within the Economic Development Delegation of the Collectivity, to respond to the imperative of collecting and processing statistical data.

The brand new Directorate presented the elements of a survey aimed at precisely determining the profiles of the residential clientele of Saint-Martin.

From November 1, 2021 to April 30, 2022, the clients of accommodation providers (Hotels and Guest-Houses) will be given a short questionnaire for this purpose.

This survey was designed in close partnership with the Tourist Office and the Tourist Club.

The indicators and dashboards will then be usable from June 2022.

Among the topics discussed, the redefinition of the marketing positioning of the Saint-Martin destination in the face of increased competition from the Caribbean region and the support of investors, were discussed by the assembly.

President Gibbs insisted on the importance of the union of all private and public actors to face the present and future challenges of our mono-industry which is tourism.
