Press release / Prefecture: Reminder of mosquito control measures

0

The rainy episodes that have been observed in recent days may have favored the proliferation of mosquitoes in Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin.

While most mosquito species do not pose a health risk, the Aedes aegypti mosquito can transmit the dengue, chikungunya and zika viruses. It breeds in clear waters in and around homes and bites during the day and early evening.

Everyone must imperatively fight this vector:

- Remove all unnecessary water containers around your home;

- Protect your water reserves with a mosquito net;

- Make sure that the small water reserves (buckets, cans, etc.) are completely used at least once a week in order to prevent the development cycle of mosquitoes;

- Hermetically protect the overflow and the inspection hatch of your tank to prevent access to mosquitoes, otherwise put guppies or golomines there. If you have the possibility, do not hesitate to offer it to your neighbors;

- Clean your gutters and channels and make sure that they do not accumulate rainwater;

- Remove the plants in water and avoid the cups of flower pots.

You can get golomines (guppies) and mosquito net at the ARS:
