President Aline Hanson received her Excellency Charles Savarin, President of the Commonwealth of Dominica, last Friday, accompanied by his wife, Clara Savarin.

Invited to the territory by the association "Dominica Foundation" of Saint-Martin, as part of the 38th anniversary of Dominica's independence, President Savarin wished to pay a courtesy visit to the local executive. He was received at the Hôtel de la Collectivité by President Aline Hanson and Vice-President Rosette Gumbs-Lake, in charge of participatory democracy and school works.

This first official visit of President Savarin to Saint-Martin was an opportunity to discuss the cordial relations maintained between Dominica and our territory, where a large Dominican community resides.

Among the themes addressed, the institutional functioning of the two territories, cooperation between the Caribbean islands, or the situation of Haiti after the passage of Hurricane Matthew, were the subject of enriching exchanges.

President Savarin was also interested in the tourist potential of Saint-Martin, stating that Dominica had based most of its promotion on ecotourism. _AF
