At the end of 2015, young people used to meet in the parking lot of a social residence in Concordia to practice bodybuilding. They created Team Alpha SXM, the first urban bodybuilding club in Saint-Martin.
Faced with the enthusiasm generated by this sport, the Collectivity decided to set up a real training structure on the seafront in Marigot, next to the ferry terminal.
Faced with growing demand, the Collectivity installed a second street workout platform in Friar's Bay in December 2019. The elected members of the executive council have just voted for the development of five other structures. They will be installed next year next to the sports facilities of Concordia, La Savane or Grand Case, at Spring in Quartier d'Orléans, at Sandy Ground and near the Colombier cultural center.
The total cost is € 250 including € 000 for equipment and € 190 for lighting. The COM will ask for a subsidy of 000% from the State.
These structures - like that of Marigot - will be available to the general public. Like Team Alpha SXM, other associations (urban bodybuilding or not) will be able to be created to federate followers of this sport and thus allow them to practice it together. (soualigapost.com)
