Belle Plaine basin: fight against floods

0

At the Hôtel de la Collectivité, the preparation meeting for the new hurricane season took place last Friday in the presence of local forces within the framework of the Orsec system.

The Belle Plaine basin in the Quartier d'Orléans sector is regularly flooded. Studies have been carried out to develop this area. Due to the overflow of the ravine, the Belle Plaine basin is too often submerged by water. To remedy this problem, studies have therefore been carried out, co-financed by Europe within the framework of the Interreg Caribbean IV program for the period 2007-2013. This system thus made it possible to release an amount of 1,4 million euros for these studies: the works can now be launched in cooperation with Sint Maarten. It was Patrick Lenz, the director of the Water and Sanitation Establishment of Saint Martin (EEASM), who presented this project last week at the Interreg meeting, in the presence in particular of the Prime Minister of Sint Maarten William Marlin and his Minister of Public Works Angel Mayers. _EH
