Several volunteers from the National Sea Lifesaving Society (SNSM) of Saint-Martin recently went to sea, following a call from the CROSS. In the end, it was a false alert in the middle of the night: an emergency beacon had accidentally been activated. The company takes this opportunity to remind sailors of certain instructions at sea. If your maritime emergency position beacon (EPIRB) activates by mistake, you must contact the CROSS on VHF 16 to inform them that is not a distress situation. You will not be fined for having accidentally triggered your beacon, stresses the company. _EH
