Vehicles used by professionals in the automotive trade for professional purposes circulate, provisionally, under cover of a W garage registration certificate. This provisional registration applies in the following cases:
New vehicles:
- Unregistered vehicles, the entry into service of which is not yet possible;
- Prototypes under study or technical tests, vehicles for which the declaration of entry into service is not yet possible;
Used vehicles or already registered in:
- Technical tests, before and after repair or modification;
- Travel between a repair shop, a specialized center or a technical control center;
- Transportation of the vehicle to a place of exposure to customers or to the address of the purchaser;
- Resale of the vehicle and presentation to a potential buyer;
- Towing between the place of the accident and a repair shop, of vehicles damaged in a traffic accident and whose back plate no longer exists or is no longer legible;
- Travel for presentation to potential buyers or their representatives; Vehicles used by educational establishments providing training for automobile repair mechanics on justification of their needs.
The request for a W garage certificate is made to the competent authority, the territorial department for Community Driving Licenses, located in the community annex, rue Victor Maurasse in Marigot. The price of the W garage certificate is maintained under the conditions set by the texts in force, that is to say the single fixed tax of fifty (50) euros.
The number of W garage certificates per company is established at the express request of the professional who requests it. The W garage certificate is not attached to a specific vehicle. However, the original of the W garage certificate used must be kept on board the vehicle in circulation and presented at the request of any person authorized to inspect.
The W garage certificate is valid for the calendar year and includes the expiry date of the provisional registration. The certificate thus issued bears the vintage of the year of its issue and is addressed to the professional who made the request. It can be renewed for the same duration. Requests are made, from January 02 for the current year.
Car and two-wheeler dealers and garage owners are required to comply with the rules of the Highway Code according to which, no vehicle is allowed to circulate without a license plate. Otherwise, vehicles must be transported on a trailer.
REMINDER: All the professionals concerned, bodybuilders, dealers, importers, garage owners, are asked to renew and / or draw up their W garage certificates, compulsory procedure for the provisional circulation of vehicles offered for sale, worked or used by the establishment. It is forbidden to run several vehicles simultaneously with the same W garage number. Finally, its use is reserved for French territory.
