ARS: 5 years of action at the service of the population

On the occasion of the five years of action of the Health Agency (ARS) of Guadeloupe, Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy, the director of the territorial delegation of the Northern Islands Pascal Godefroy invited the press last Thursday to present the five main achievements in Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy. 

“We are celebrating the anniversary of the ARS throughout France. These agencies were created on April 1, 2010 ”, says Pascal Godefroy, adding that the objective of this press point is to highlight the five major achievements that reflect the action and commitment of ARS in the Islands North.

The fight against the chikungunya virus in the Northern Islands 
The epidemic phase ended on April 30, 2014 in Saint-Martin and on May 22, 2014 in Saint-Barthélemy. “This fight against the virus has been characterized by numerous communication actions with the population. Space sprays were carried out, which ended on March 30. Management committees had also been set up with the prefecture and various partners. These actions have helped eradicate the epidemic, ”notes Mr. Godefroy.

The establishment of a local health contract (CLS) 
A local health contract (2014-2017) was signed on December 5, 2014 between the Community and the ARS. It aims to develop the regional health project (PRS) for the Northern Islands. Concerning Saint-Martin, “the action plan of this CLS is being validated”, he mentions. It includes 6 priorities including the fight against obesity.

The establishment of a youth health plan in Saint-Martin 
The youth health plan was drawn up at the end of 2014. “We are in the process of validating an action program. Last week, a first meeting of the monitoring committee took place. We are working over 3 years, and this plan will be updated each year as the various actions are carried out, ”he explains.

The development of regional cooperation between Saint Martin and Sint Maarten 
The ARS noted several actions carried out in 2011 and 2012 on different health topics. As a reminder, on April 14, 2014, a declaration of intent to cooperate against chikungunya was signed. Inter-hospital cooperation really started with the signing of a letter of intent, on March 24, 2014, between the Louis-Constant Fleming hospital center and the Sint Maarten Medical Center.

Creation of a nursing home in Saint-Barthélemy 
The EHPAD includes 26 beds in total to develop care for the elderly in the area. The inauguration was made on December 12, 2014 in Gustavia.
