Antilles-Guyana: Guadeloupe hosts the XNUMXth Regional Cooperation Conference

0

After Guyana last year, it is Guadeloupe's turn to host since yesterday the XIII Antilles-Guyana Regional Cooperation Conference. More than 200 participants are expected including the president of the Community, Daniel Gibbs.

The last 18 months have been marked by major political events, outside (election in the USA, crisis in Venezuela, etc.) but also inside (presidential election, social crisis in Guyana, launch of the Assises des Outre- sea…).

After a year 2015 which had been marked by departmental and then regional elections in Guadeloupe, 2016 saw, in Martinique and Guyana, the first steps of the new Unique Collectivity. In the consular framework, too, these last months have seen a significant renewal of part of the teams.

Regional cooperation is fueled by this news and its need is felt all the more powerfully since political decision-makers, on both sides of national borders, are confronted with identical questions or which call for coordinated responses. Thus, the zika epidemic in 2016 and, in 2017, the start of a particularly intense cyclone season, will have had a strong impact.

How to act so that these events are the occasion for a new impetus of our regional cooperation?

This question and many others have been on the program of the XIIIth regional cooperation conference since yesterday today in Guadeloupe.

Better coordination of actions

During two days, the participants will tackle many aspects of cooperation with the objective of better coordinating the actions of the State, communities, associations and the private sector in matters of international business development, mobilization for employment, response to climate change, cooperation in health and safety, etc.

Chaired by Ambassador Jean-Bernard Nilam, the conference brings together all the players from Guadeloupe, Martinique, Guyana and the Northern Islands involved in regional cooperation: prefects, presidents and elected officials of local authorities, ambassadors from France in neighboring countries as well as nearly 200 participants representing the living forces of the territories._AF
