Anguilla: The neighboring island of Saint-Martin also wants to build marinas!

The Anguilla government is launching a call for projects with investors to develop operations for the development of marinas and resorts. He has already selected five potential sites: Sandy Ground, Blowing Point, Rendez-vous Bay, Little harbor and Scrub Island, which he owns for some.

In this process, the government is supported by Edgewater Resources, an American company specializing in the development and design of marinas.

At Sandy Ground, it was thought to transform the salt marsh into a marina. An access channel will have to be dredged in order to allow mega yachts to enter it. The government wants the construction of a maritime museum on this site, which would present, among other things, local know-how, techniques and the history of the salt production activity on the island.

At Blowing Point where the ferry terminal is located, it was imagined the construction of two dikes that would protect the bay and would above all allow mega yachts over 300 feet (91 meters) to moor. The pond behind the beach would also be transformed into a marina for boats from 40 to 80 feet to 12 to 24 meters. The government also wants a museum there.

At Rendez-vous bay, there are also plans to develop the pond into a mega-yacht dock. According to the government, this is the best of the five sites selected, for the reception of large boats.

In Little Harbor, a bay naturally protected by a reef, a marina could be fitted out for smaller boats, mega yachts over 200 feet (61 meters) unable to access the site because of its narrowness. In addition to this interior basin, which would be mainly intended for smaller boats less than 24 meters (80 feet), it is proposed the development of a second basin to accommodate ships of a length ranging from 18 to 61 meters ( 60 to 200 feet).

Finally, the government validated the development of Scrub Island, a desert island 8 square kilometers north of Anguilla. It is suggested to build two small basins to accommodate mega yachts. According to the government, Scrub, an isolated natural site, is the ideal place for the wealthiest tourists in the world, so it wants to build a luxurious, unique and "exclusive" resort.

Interested investors who have applied have until March 2020 to exchange with Edgewater. The construction site should however start in January 2020 and be completed in May 2021. The government hopes to open it for the first time in June 2021.
