AGRICULTURE: Work to diversify the activity of the slaughterhouse

0

The development of the activity of the slaughterhouse around new products (tripe, legs, matured meat, etc.) is envisaged. Cutting, maturing the meat, processing offal are some of the operations that the slaughterhouse would like to be able to carry out in the near future. With this in mind, the Collectivity, which owns the premises, will initiate development work accordingly.

In addition, the rise of the egg industry will generate new needs; spent laying hens should be slaughtered. It is therefore planned to install a functional poultry slaughter module. The COM also wants the reorganization of the bouverie for pigs and small ruminants.

This development will be carried out in two stages; the construction of new equipment being the second phase. As a first step, the COM will carry out works to rehabilitate the site as well as urgent compliance work (installation of a pre-treatment unit for waste of animal origin, a generator, redevelopment of the containment airlock for small ruminants, renovation of the structure, etc.). The cost of the works is estimated at 1,5 million euros.

About 5,9 animals are slaughtered each month, or about 12 tonnes per year. The slaughtered animals consist exclusively of 81% cattle and 19% pigs.
