Actions to combat strokes

Acting Fast is important!

Since 2012, communication campaigns have been conducted by the ARS in conjunction with the CHU, France AVC Guadeloupe and IREPS (Regional Authority for Education and Health Promotion). An information and awareness day was organized, last Saturday, at Howell Center, on the recognition of the signs of the cerebrovascular accident (AVC) and the action to be taken in case of appearance of these signs.

As a reminder, cerebrovascular accidents (strokes) are serious illnesses. They are responsible for disability more often than road accidents. They cause almost as much dementia as Alzheimer's disease. The mortality of 50% at five years places stroke on the same level of severity as the majority of cancers.

The management of stroke by dedicated teams in Neuro-Vascular Units (UNV), allows a reduction of a quarter of mortality and dependency rate at one year, in particular thanks to the means of treatment of stroke acute, which are very time dependent. The rapid arrival of the patient at the CHU in the UNV is essential. Progress has therefore already been noted since 2012. This is why, once again this year, a proximity campaign aimed at reminding people of the signs of recognition of stroke and of the action to be taken was carried out on Saint- Martin._AF
