Abolition of slavery: commemoration on Saturday at Agrément

0

The commemoration of the 169th anniversary of the abolition of slavery will take place on Saturday from 9 a.m. at the Agrément roundabout, in the presence of the president of the Collectivity Daniel Gibbs and officials. The prefecture specifies that Saint-Martin is still awaiting “the legislative modification which will officially record the change of date to May 28, the historic date of the abolition of slavery in the territory”. The COM informs the population that a portion of rue de Hollande - between Motorworld and the roundabout - will be closed from 5 a.m. to 14 p.m. Note that yesterday, Annick Girardin, Minister of Overseas Territories, gave a speech in Paris on the occasion of the inauguration of an exhibition devoted to the founding of the civil status of slaves freed by the decree of abolition of 1848. _EH
