With 95% of its fleet impacted by Hurricane Irma, Semsamar estimated the damage at 72 million euros. Technical diagnostics were carried out by external experts to assess this amount. But “only 30 million are covered by our insurance policy”, specifies the director general, Marie-Paule Bélénus-Romana. It must therefore find funds up to 42 million euros to finance the reconstruction work. "Not counting the cost of building reception areas for temporary relocations of several dozen tenant families, which amounts to 7 million," adds the director.
Semsamar proposed a financing plan to the public authorities which it gave to the Prime Minister during his visit to Saint-Martin on November 6. It was also presented to the community. Semsamar hopes to be able to start its rehabilitation and reconstruction work program in early 2018.
