1er Prize: Eugène Duzant (CEPAC CAISSE D'EPARGNE 3 Euros)

Presentation of the project Eugène Duzant: "Souali Aquaponics"

Aquaponics is a system that unites plant culture and fish farming. The plants are sometimes cultivated on clay balls, which can be irrigated in a closed circuit with water coming from tanks where the fish are raised. Aerobic bacteria from the substrate convert the ammonia contained in the urine and excrements of fish into nutrients (especially nitrates), which can be directly assimilated by the vegetation. The purified water then returns to the tank. The word aquaponics, translated from English "aquaponics", is a portmanteau formed by the fusion of the words aquaculture (breeding of fish or other aquatic organisms) and hydroponics (cultivation of plants by water enriched in mineral matter) . For Eugène Duzant, it is important that island islands like Saint-Martin offer diverse local production and thus become self-sufficient in terms of food.

A word from Murielle Planques, territorial director CEPAC Iles du Nord

“I am in charge of the three CEPAC Iles du Nord agencies, namely Marigot, Hope Estate and Saint-Jean (Saint-Barthélemy). As soon as Sabrina Rivère contacted us to tell us about this new project, we responded positively to her request without the slightest hesitation. Our partnership with Initiative Saint Martin Active dates back more than fifteen years, notably with the funding of project leaders in business creation, and many other events linked to the solidarity and sustainable economy.

The Concours des Quartiers was a real and clear success. We are proud to have contributed to the success of this 1st editing. We will ensure that our partnership with Active Saint Martin Initiative continues to last for the benefit of business leaders whose innovative companies contribute to local economic dynamism ”.

2nd Price: Maria Vassileva (CCISM 2 Euros)

Presentation of Maria's project Vassileva: "Moringa Powder Farm SXM"

Native to the southern foothills of the Himalayas and Sri Lanka, the Moringa plant (Moringa oleifera) has grown in all tropical regions. Nicknamed by the local populations the Tree of Life in reference to its many virtues, Moringa oleifera helps purify the body, strengthen the immune system, prevent cardiovascular risks and even lose weight. Maria Vassileva discovered this product in 2008. She developed a passion for it and decided to make it a business project. It is for her to develop a Moringa farm locally in order to reach the local population first, the Caribbean then the international market.

A word from Julien Bataille, Director General of the CCISM

“For many years, the CCI of Saint-Martin has been working alongside Initiative Saint Martin Active. In particular on the Innovation Competition and today with the Neighborhood Competition for which we were fully mobilized. Our interest is to encourage project leaders, to create favorable conditions for their installation and the development of their business. I remind you that this competition was also open to associations. The latter also enter into the game of economic life by creating jobs, wealth ...

The CCISM witnessed the birth of the platform 20 years ago! We will make sure to always be a partner of Initiative Saint Martin Active for several decades to come! "

3nd Prize: Xavier Mire Minori (ADECCO 500 Euros)

• Presentation of Xavier's project Mire Minori: "Tell me about your neighborhood"

The aim of the project is to highlight the cohesion of neighborhoods by making everyone discover the particularities and history of their neighborhood beforehand: cultures, intergenerational relations, artistic practices, craftsmanship. It is in fact better to know each other in order to live better in its territory. For the first edition, the association is targeting the 2 Priority Quarters of the City of Saint-Martin (Sandy-Ground and Quartier d'Orléans).

Many of the habits and customs linked to the history of the districts of Saint-Martin are dying out. From this observation, the association now wishes to make known the ancestral practices of the 2 districts (storytelling, crafts, arts, etc.) to create interest and vocations among young people.

Sylvie Feger's message (ADECCO director at Howell Center)

“I am delighted to be here with you this evening (editor's note: Friday December 3) and to be able to participate in this neighborhood competition for the 20th anniversary of the Saint Martin Active Initiative. I therefore have the pleasure of handing over the 3rd  prize from ADECCO Saint-Martin for the project: “Our Neighborhoods Have Potential”.

This project is fundamental because it will allow the transmission between generations of the same district of habits and customs.

Seniors will be able to share with the youth on a daily basis the traditions specific to their neighborhood, each one will be keen to bring to life and relive folklore, legends, culinary art, crafts, culture ... so that each of us does not never forget where he came from and who he really is.

I will only have one message to give you this prize: young people need their elders to understand their neighborhood.

Let's preserve these links forever!

Thank you to you for your work and your daily involvement ”. _AF
